  Kazakhstan welcomes Yerevan, Baku’s agreement to meet in Almaty May 1, 2024 - 16:41 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has welcomed the agreement of Baku and Yerevan to hold negotiations in Almaty to prepare a peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia, a statement by the Kazakh leader published by his press service reveals. “I welcome the agreement of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia to hold, at the proposal of the Kazakh side, negotiations between the ministers of foreign affairs on the preparation of a peace treaty between the two states. It is symbolic that this important event will take place in Almaty, where the historic Alma-Ata Declaration was signed in December 1991, establishing the foundations independent development of the CIS countries and approved the principles of determining interstate borders,” Tokayev noted. He also said that the upcoming meeting will serve the practical implementation of the Azerbaijani-Armenian agreements and will contribute to the early establishment of a strong and long-term peace in the South Caucasus. On April 30, official representative of the Kazakh Foreign Ministry Aibek Smadiyarov told TASS that Yerevan and Baku have confirmed their participation in the meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan Ararat Mirzoyan and Jeyhun Bayramov in Almaty. Earlier, he noted that the Kazakh authorities, when organizing this meeting, do not intend to act as mediators in the negotiations, which will take place exclusively between the two parties.
