Architecture Museum director David Sarkisyan dies

Director of Shchusev StateMuseumofArchitecture in Moscow, David Sarkisyan died at 62 in a Munich hospital after a lingering illness.



David Sarkisyan campaigned against the destruction of dozens of Moscow building, specifically the Central House of Artists.

David Sarkisyan was born in Yerevan, Armenia in 1947. He was a man of many talents, first working as a biologist and developing a drug to treat Alzheimer\'s, then in the 1980s turning his hand to film making as a script writer and director of more than 20 documentaries. He assumed the post of director of Shchusev State Museum of Architecture in 2000. Recognizing that the walls of the grand old building on Vozdvizhenka were the perfect backdrop for architectural exhibitions, he transformed the obscure venue into an excellent exhibition center.
