SHEVARDNADZE DEPENDS ON ALIYEV

President of Georgia was making decisions about the route of the Baku-Ceyhan oil pipeline under a strong pressure from Azerbaijan.

After long debates the Ministry of Ecology of Georgia gave a sanction for construction of Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline. The observations of 5 expert commissions and claims of 64 international ecologic organizations were not taken into account. Under a pressure from investors and interested states, the government of the country approved the project which may have extremely dangerous consequences for the ecology of the regions through which the route of the pipeline will pass.
