The relationship between Armenia and Iran must stay apart from any troubles of the region
Any tension between the USA and Turkey due to the North Iraqi issue and the sudden warmth in the relationship with Iran will make the perfect scenario for Armenia.
The Great Middle East Project where Iran has a role of no small importance is of great interest to Washington. After Iran agreed upon allowing IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) inspectors to its nuclear units, the USA has almost no reason to unleash war. Remembering the case with Iraq, there are no particular reasons to launch any military actions. The whole question is how righteous they are and whether Washington will decide on the war, which may end like the War in Iraqi, i.e. will never end at all.
Being well aware of the fact that in case of war instability will become even stronger in already troublesome region, the USA anyway gives more reasons for creating tension in the Persian Gulf.

However things may have completely different outcomes. On April 30 an international conference on the Iraqi issue where representatives from Iran were present was organized in Sharm el-Sheikh. It was then, that the parties first held non-formal negotiations over the last 27 years. According to the professor of international relations Khachik Ter-Gukasyan, Washington needs "an Arch of Stability" stretching from the Caspian to the Black Sea. "First of all this concerns the role of oil in stability maintenance. The USA speaks for cooperation, yet the situation in the Middle East mildly speaking is rather tense. The truth is though, that Washington has the intention to improve its relationship with Iran," he said.

In fact, the most optimal way to creating effective relationship with Iran for Washington is to initiate direct negotiations on different directions; working out a new plan of the renewal of diplomatic connections, gradual cancellation of American sanctions and recreating a better atmosphere. The recognition of its status and influence is also important for Iran. Iran is ready to hold the second stage of negotiations with the USA on stabilization of the situation in Iraq, if they come up with such a suggestion, announced the Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs Manouchehr Mottaki. "We are quite positively disposed to holding the second stage of negotiations and perhaps it will happen in the nearest future," he said. It should be mentioned that lately the Iranian high rank representatives have more than once spoken of their willingness for having discussions over the Iraqi question with the USA. On July 9 Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad announced that Tehran is ready for negotiations with the USA.

The official representative of the US State Department Sean McCormack also announced that Washington is willing to hold the second stage of the direct negotiations with Iran on the problem of the country's security. He mentioned that regarding the present situation in Iraq and the fact that Iran's activities caused even more tension in the country, the new stage of the direct, or the so called "face to face" negotiations between Iran and the USA are necessary. It must be mentioned thought that the same State Department was critically disposed to locating Iran's gas in Turkey, mentioning that it would be very untimely. Iran and Turkey have recently signed a memorandum on mutual understanding regarding cooperation in the sphere of energy. According to the agreement Iran will give some of his units to Turkish companies, and will transfer its natural gas to Europe through Turkey. Though according to Sean McCormack, the decision on business cooperation with Iran should be made by the Turkish government and Turkish organizations. "Iran didn't prove to be a trustworthy partner for such agreements", said McCormack.

Any tension between the USA and Turkey due to the North Iraqi issue and the sudden warmth in the relationship with Iran will make the perfect scenario for Armenia. "In fact, in such turn of events Russia's presence as a warrant of Armenia's safety will become unnecessary. We need to work on our relationship with Iran. Iran is considered minority in the Islamic World as it practices Shiism. The very Iran has the potential to gain the regional power. Will there be any political power in Washington, which will be able to start a dialogue with Iran on equal terms? This is the key question to the Middle Eastern problem. The questions about how the balance between Sunnis (Al-Qaida) and Shiites will be kept, and how the Lebanese problem will be solved, are the questions which need a definite answer. But in any case the relationship between Armenia and Iran must stay apart from any troubles of the region", says Khachik Ter-Ghukasyan.
