Armenia deepens economic ties with Belarus and IranArmenian economy needs reorganization, specifically improvement of business environment and reduction of corruption risks. The research carried out among 1066 industrial organizations showed a 6% increase of economic activity in Armenia. This week, delegations from Belarus and Iran arrived in Yerevan to deepen economic ties. October 2, 2010 PanARMENIAN.Net - The protocol of the 8th meeting of the Armenian-Belarusian intergovernmental committee on economic cooperation was signed in Yerevan by RA Minister of Economy Nerses Yeritsyan and Belarusian Minister of Trade Valentin Chekanov. Upon completion of the signing ceremony, Minister Yeritsyan informed that agreements were achieved on all cooperation fields, specifically healthcare, agriculture, education, culture and tourism. The next meeting of the committee will be held in early 2011 in Minsk. Armenian-Belarusian chamber of commerce – ArBe –opened in Yerevan on September 30. “It will become a platform to strengthen our ties,” Minister Chekanov said, expressing hope that a similar chamber will be established in Minsk as well. He said that Belarus is interested in import of Armenian alcoholic beverages and fruits. The two countries also reached agreements on cooperation in jewelry field and diamond cutting. Belarusian Ministry of Trade and Armenian Ministry of Economy will negotiate mini tractors production. “We offered to establish an assembly factory for small-size machinery, as Armenia’s landscape does not allow using huge capacities,” Chekanov said. During the visit to Armenia, Chairman of the Iranian Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Mines Mohammad Nahavandian said it is necessary to increase the two countries’ trade turnover, boost cooperation in industry and tourism, as well as develop infrastructures. He said Iranian companies are interested in implementation of the project on Iran-Armenia railroad construction. “It is still early to announce the amount of investments, which the Iranian side is going to make in the project. A special working group will make the calculations, after which we will present the results,” he said. Nahavandian stressed that the two countries need to intensify implementation of investment programs in infrastructure projects, including road construction and energy. “Construction of a hydropower plant in Meghri, as well as of power transmission lines will start soon,” he said. Yerevan also hosted a delegation of German entrepreneurs, who arrived to study the investments environment in the republic. It’s not a secret that Armenian economy needs reorganization, specifically improvement of business environment and reduction of corruption risks. The Armenian government pledges to take action.
