Seven boxers to represent Armenia at Trabzon tournament

PanARMENIAN.Net - Head coach of Armenian boxing team Karen Aghamalyan named the squad that will perform at ranking tournament in Trabzon, Turkey on April 13-22.

In conversation with a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter, he announced the line-up as follows: Koryun Soghomonyan (49 kg), Hovhannes Danielyan (52 kg), Aram Avagyan (56 kg), Vladimir Sarukhanyan (60 kg), Ara Puluzyan (64 kg), Hrayr Matevosyan (69 kg) and Artur Khachatryan (81 kg).

In weight category of U 49-60 kg, winners of 1-4 places will qualify for London Olympics, while in weight class of 52, 56 and 81kg winners of 1-3 places will gain entry to the games.

“There are still 7-8 days left, for this period we will help boxers to gain the optimal shape. Presently we are holding the last team practice session in Abovyan,” Aghamalyan said.

On April 13, the team will depart for Tbilisi, Georgia, by bus, to leave for Trabzon later.

Armenia will have no representative in weight category of 91 kg due to absence of a relevant boxer, according to the team’s chief coach Karen Aghamalyan. Andranik Hakobyan (75 kg) is the only one to qualify for Summer Olympics.
