MOSCOW SOBERLY EVALUATES SITUATION IN ARMENIA, RUSSIAN POLITICAL SCIENTIST CONSIDERS

PanARMENIAN.Net - Russia has "a rather sober and balanced posture" regarding the situation in Armenia, Russian political scientist, member of the Union of Armenians of Russia board Andranik Mihranian told journalists today, Rosbalt agency reported. In his words, "Russian authorities have made no official statements. One has to be very silly to make any statements now, as the Russian-Armenian relations will hardly change depending on who is in power after the crisis," Mihranian emphasized. He noted "it would be incorrect to draw direct parallels between the current political crisis in Armenia and the recent "velvet revolution" in Georgia." In the political scientist's opinion, the situation in Armenia differs from that in Georgia on a range of circumstances. "The Georgian leadership was not conjoint. Thus, when the army and police said they were neutral, it became evident that Shevardnadze's time was over, - Mihranian noted. - Besides, the Georgian opposition had an absolutely charismatic leader, famous for his struggle against corruption - Mikhail Saakashvili." The political scientist reminded that the Armenian opposition has several leaders, who did not manage to nominate a joint candidate at the presidential election, "which much helped Robert Kocharian to win." "Besides, in Armenia there is no George Soros, who helped to remove Shevardnadze. And the US Ambassador is not so active in Armenia, - Mihranian stated. - It is known that US Ambassador Richard Miles was the architect of the Georgian revolution."
