UN WAS FAIR TO REFUSE TWO ESCAPED TO BAKU ARMENIANS IN REFUGEE STATUS, RUSSIAN ATTORNEY CONSIDERS

PanARMENIAN.Net - In the opinion of member of the Council of the Russian Human Rights Center of Memorial, member of the Commission for Human Rights under Russia's President Svetlana Gannushkina, the UN Supreme Commissariat was absolutely fair to have refused to grant the refugee status to two Armenians, who escaped to Baku. In her opinion, as Caucasian Center writes, the demands of the escaped did not accord with the UN Convention of 1951 on providing the refugee status, as ethnic discrimination was not applied to these people. Gannushkina underscored that after receiving the status these people hoped to leave for third countries. The Russian attorney noted that alluding to such people, Azerbaijan purposely spreads false information. To remind, on April 8 Armenian citizens Artur Apresian and Roman Tarian illegally entered Azerbaijan, explaining their "escape" from Yerevan, as reported by Azeri media, "by the gravity of social-economic situation, threat of possible war as well as the latest development in the country".
