On May 12, Armenian National Assembly vice-speaker met with 35 journalists from 24 countries.
Dwelling on the past parliamentary elections, Eduard Sharmazanov characterized them as a turning point on Armenia’s democracy path. He discussed the efficiency of development and democratization of the country, as well as current conditions for youth’s self-actualization.
He further reflected on the religious processes, the need for international recognition of the Armenian Genocide, Armenian-Turkish relations, Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement and Armenia’s balanced foreign policy. He hailed Armenia’s steps towards Genocide international recognition, which are aimed at deterring such crimes in future.
The politician further stressed Armenia’s readiness to establish ties with Turkey with no preconditions. Mr. Sharmazanov underscored the need for Karabakh resolution in the framework of the three principles of international law: non-use of force, self-determination and territorial integrity.
“Armenia is a country that follows the path of democracy. In this respect, European integration program is inevitable,” the vice-speaker said, dwelling on Armenia’s foreign policy.
