SERGEY MIRONOV: RUSSIA TO ACT IN LINE WITH ARMENIA'S INTERESTS

PanARMENIAN.Net - During their meeting in Yerevan on October 1 Armenian Parliament Speaker Artur Baghdasarian and Chairman of the Federation Council of the Russian Federal Assembly Sergey Mironov touched upon the problems, which had emerged after Russia's closing Verkhni Lars checkpoint at the Georgian-Russian border. As reported by Regnum news agency, at the briefing after the meeting Sergey Mironov stated that "Armenian friends are respectful to the motives, which conditioned the measure taken by Russia" and added that "the Russian party should in shortest terms discuss the possibilities of solving this problem taking into account the interests of Armenia - Russia's strategic partner in Transcaucasus". When commenting on the issue of the Armenian cargoes, which accumulated at the Georgian-Russian border as result of this counter-terrorism measure, S. Mironov stated that after the tragic events in Beslan Russia was forced to apply such measures, which are in no way directed against the transit of Armenian cargoes.
