Royal Russian clock sold for nearly $1 million at Christie’s

PanARMENIAN.Net - A cabinet clock, believed to have once belonged to the Russian Tsar Paul I, has sold for nearly $1 million. The timepiece was made by James Cox, who also created the 3-meter high ‘Peacock Clock’ on display at the Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg.

Believed to have been first owned by Tsar Paul I, it was gifted to the German Baron Ludwig Heinrich Nicolay, who arrived in the Russian Empire in 1769 to be his teacher.

Initially valued between $80,200 and $128,320, the historical timepiece was sold at Christie’s London sale for $966,810, ten times the estimate, therebel.org reported.
