"The Smurfs 2" animated comedy debuts hilarious trailer (video)

PanARMENIAN.Net - "The Smurfs 2" has debuted a hilarious trailer for fans' viewing pleasure. The trailer is mostly set in Paris, where the fan-favorite blue creatures are dealing with an eccentric villain who can make Smurfs-like naughty creatures. Funny things happen as those troublesome group sparks frenzy in the French city, including using a ferris wheel to stroll around the city. A glimpse at Neil Patrick Harris' lead human character is also shown doing an awkward impression of the Smurfs, AceShobiz said.

In this sequel to the hybrid live action/animated family blockbuster comedy "The Smurfs", the evil wizard Gargamel creates a couple of mischievous Smurf-like creatures called the Naughties that he hopes will let him harness the all-powerful, magical Smurf-essence. However, when he discovers that only a real Smurf can give him what he wants, Gargamel kidnaps Smurfette and brings her to Paris, where he has been winning the adoration of millions as the world's greatest sorcerer.

It's up to Papa, Clumsy, Grouchy, and Vanity to return to our world, reunite with their human friends Patrick and Grace Winslow, and rescue her! Will Smurfette, who has always felt different from the other Smurfs, find a new connection with the Naughties Vexy and Hackus - or will the Smurfs convince her that their love for her is True Blue?

Director Raja Gosnell once explained to Entertainment Weekly about the new Smurf-like characters, Vexy and Hackus. "Smurfette was a lump of clay that Gargamel put in his cauldron and he painted her blue as a disguise. Using that as a jumping off point, our Naughties are basically clay gray," he said.

"Vexy is smart, and mischievous and has lots of attitude. Attitude to spare. And she really does want to please her father." Of Hackus, the filmmaker said that "he's just very funny and very physical. He's the Tasmanian Devil meets a lovable puppy dog."

"The Smurfs 2" will open wide in the U.S. on July 31, 2013.
