DEMOCRATIC PARTY PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE ARAM SARGSIAN WITHDREW RACEFebruary 14, 2003 - 22:05 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Candidate for president, leader of the Democratic party of Armenia Aram Sargsian withdrew the electoral race, stating he would support leader of the People party of Armenia Stepan Demirchian at the forthcoming elections. As the Democratic party leader told journalists today, such a decision was made "in the view of circumstances that have impeded his valuable participation in the electoral race" and was conditioned by the fact that his and Demirchian's programs were similar. He also noted that he had not withdrawn candidacy by the deadline determined by the Electoral Code, i.e. February 9, "due to a number of technical circumstances."
