"Safety Not Guaranteed" helmer to direct "Jurassic Park 4"

PanARMENIAN.Net - "Jurassic Park 4" will be directed by Colin Trevorrow, Universal announced, according to TheWrap.

The Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment production will be produced by Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley, while Steven Spielberg -- who directed the franchise's first two installments -- will executive produce.

Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, the writing team behind "Rise of the Planet of the Apes," wrote the script.

Universal previously announced that the dinosaur sequel will roar into theaters on June 13, 2014. "Jurassic Park," the 1993 blockbuster that launched the popular franchise, will be re-released in 3D and IMAX on April 5 of this year.

The three films in the franchise have collectively grossed close to $2 billion worldwide to-date, with the original film making $914 million alone. Kathleen Kennedy, who produced all three, will not be returning for the fourth due to her commitments to Lucasfilm and the "Star Wars" sequel.

"Jurassic Park 4" will only be Trevorrow's second feature film, making it quite a leap in both size and subject matter from his first, "Safety Not Guaranteed." The romantic time travel comedy, which stars Aubrey Plaza, Mark Duplass and Jake Johnson, was produced on a $750,000 budget. The last "Jurassic Park" movie, released in 2001, cost $93 million to produce.

Still, "Safety" was a hit with the critics after premiering at the Sundance Film Festival in 2012 and earned Trevorrow a nomination for Best First Feature at this year’s Independent Spirit Awards.
