Kars-Akhalkalaki-Tbilisi-Baku Project Profitable to All except Armenia
In case the project of building Kars-Akhalkalaki-Tbilisi-Baku railway is implemented, Georgia becomes a transit country and will have an outlet to Asia Minor, Middle East and from there to the Persian Gulf, independent expert economist Eduard Aghajanov stated in a conversation with a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter. In his words, the project is profitable to all parties, including Russia. «Everyone except Armenia. If it is implemented, Armenia will fall out of all regional programs and will in fact turn in an unnecessary adjunct,» he remarked. Aghajanov welcomed EU decision not to provide funding for that railway just owing to the reason mentioned.

At that the expert emphasized that putting into operation the Kars-Gyumri railway, built 2 centuries ago, is economically much more advantageous. «Its repair will cost much less and the profitability will be even higher than the current project, which is very expensive. However, in the political respect both to Azerbaijan and Turkey, as well as Georgia the Kars-Akhalkalaki-Tbilisi railway is much more preferable,» he said.
