EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting to focus on Eastern Partnership

PanARMENIAN.Net - The EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting due Monday, July 22 in Brussels will focus on the Eastern Partnership, Lithuania media reported.

Foreign ministers will discuss preparations for the third Eastern Partnership Summit to be held in Vilnius in November, and the annual Eastern Partnership ministerial meeting that will take place after the Council meeting.

Foreign Minister Linas Linkevičius will also participate in the discussion ‘Heading towards Vilnius: A milestone for the Eastern Partnership’ which will be co-organised by the European Policy Centre and Lithuania’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

Foreign ministers of the EU and Eastern Partnership countries, including Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Moldova and Belarus are also invited to take part in the discussion.

The Council will also debate events in the EU’s southern neighborhood, the Middle East peace process, and Lebanon, with particular focus on Syria.

Preparations for the Geneva II peace conference, the political situation in Egypt, and the situation in Africa’s Great Lakes Region, Somalia and Mali are also on the agenda.
