Protesters take over Ukraine’s Fuel and Energy Ministry January 25, 2014 - 16:17 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Protesters have occupied Ukraine’s Fuel and Energy Ministry in downtown Kyiv, an opposition leader said Saturday, Jan 25, according to RIA Novosti. “Activists took over the building, while the guards did not put up a fight. We will go on to paralyze the central bodies of the government,” Alexander Danilyuk, who heads the group Common Cause, told Ukraine’s Channel 5. A day before, protesters took over the Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry. Dozens of demonstrators and riot police have been injured in a surge of violence that enveloped the capital Kyiv last week after Ukraine’s government enacted laws severely restricting protests. Authorities said two protesters have been killed in the unrest, while the opposition raised the number of casualties to five. No police fatalities were reported. In a bid to ease tensions in the country, President Viktor Yanukovych said Friday that Ukraine’s parliament next week would consider pardoning detained political activists and reshuffling the government’s top ministers.
