  Gyumri massacre culprit to undergo psychiatric examination January 23, 2015 - 17:30 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Russian soldier Valery Permyakov charged with murdering a family in Gyumri will undergo a psychiatric examination, Panorama.am said citing Intefax. “Several forensic tests are being conducted as part of the joint investigation. A psychiatric evaluation will also be done soon, as provided by the law in such cases,” the source told Interfax on Friday. Forensic experts will evaluate the mental health of the soldier who committed mass murder in Gyumri. “All tests, including this one, will be conducted at the 102nd Russian military base in Armenia,” the source stressed. A Russian lawyer residing in Armenia will defend Permyakov. “His name was not released so far for obvious reasons. He performs his official duty,” the source of Interfax noted. Six members of one family were found dead in their house in Gyumri on January 12. A six-month-old child was hospitalized with stab wounds. He died in hospital on Monday. Valery Permyakov, a serviceman of the 102nd Russian military base stationed in Gyumri, the main suspect in the murder, was detained by Russian border guards while attempting to cross the Armenian-Turkish border near Yerazgavors village in Armenia’s Shirak province. Permyakov is held in custody at the Russian military base. He is charged with murder and desertion while carrying a weapon given to him for military service.
