Android TV adds 600 channels in update

Android TV offered a paltry selection of apps at launch, but that is no longer a concern following the release of its most recent update, Digital Spy reports.

Google's latest update for the platform has introduced more than 600 new channels, spanning sports, gaming, news, and more.

Users on devices that run the software, such as the Nexus Player, can browse the new apps via search or through 20 curated collections.

The update follows the launch of Google's Android TV Channels initiative, which allows app publishers to programme linear TV channels and have their shows run live beside broadcast TV stations.

Android TV still lags behind many of its competitors post-update, with Roku boasting 2,000 apps and Amazon Fire TV 1,700.

Meanwhile, Apple is believed to have backtracked on plans to unveil its Apple TV revamp at the Worldwide Developer Conference next week.
