In the framework of projects implemented by Yerevan City Hall and the administrative districts, the irrigation system of the capital is annually expanded by about 30 km, chief of nature protection department of the municipality said.

According to Avet Martirosyan, landscaping is done only in irrigated areas. He also said that the improvement of irrigation network is the basis for the expansion of green areas, and much work has been carried out to that end within the past years.

“There are 30ha more green areas in Yerevan, than there were in the 1990s. In the spring of 2015, 20,000 trees and bushes were planted in the capital, with a 70% survival rate,” the official said.

As for pruning the trees, Martirosyan said that the procedure was successfully performed by professional agricultural workers. He also added that green areas increase by about 15 ha per year, particularly by 16 ha in 2015.
