Armenia’s border communities benefit from Alternative Energy Project

PanARMENIAN.Net - In the frames of Alternative Energy Project, the Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets (FPWC) and VivaCell-MTS continue implementing reforms in rural communities of Armenia.

As a result of the cooperation, support poles and 60 LED street lights were installed in Khndzorut, a remote border community in Vayots Dzor province, to illuminate an area of 1800 meters in the central part of the village, including two main streets.

VivaCell-MTS General Manager Ralph Yirikian, FPWC Founder Ruben Khachatryan, Head of Khndzorut community Zhirayr Nazaryan and community residents attended the event.

“VivaCell-MTS highly appreciates the Alternative energy project, which includes illuminating streets in border villages, using less power, which allows to save on electricity payments,” Yirikian said.

Bordering Nakhijevan, Khndzorut community with over 500 inhabitants hasn’t had not outdoor lighting since the collapse of the Soviet Union.

The environmentally friendly and energy-efficient LED lights will reduce energy costs by up to 80%. Outdoor lighting will be provided from 10:00 pm to 1:00 am in summer, from 6:30 pm to 12:00 am in winter, and all night long on holidays. LED bulbs are efficient and durable, lasting much longer than the regular ones.

The FPWC and VivaCell-MTS welcome the use of latest technologies in environment protection initiatives, promoting nature conservation, energy efficiency and community development.
