Every third person will be above 60 in Armenia in 2050: report![]() November 23, 2015 - 18:08 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Global AgeWatch Index 2015 published an insight report on the situation of older people in 96 countries of the world. The report highlights which countries are doing best for their older populations and how this links with policies on pensions, health, education, employment and the social environment in which older people live. In the report, Armenia ranks moderately at 43 overall. 16.3% of the country's populations is above 60 in 2015, scheduled to raise to 23,8% in 2030, and 33,1% in 2050. Armenia ranks relatively high in the capability domain (9) with one of the highest employment rates (61.7%) in the region and above average educational attainment (83.7%) amongst older people. It also ranks high in the income security domain (32) with 100% pension income coverage and a below average poverty rate (6.9%), despite having one of the lowest GNI per capita in the region (U.S. $7,584). It ranks low in the health domain (74) with below average life expectancy, but high psychological wellbeing for the region. As the number and proportion of older people increases at an unprecedented rate, the report shows what works for older people but also highlights how much work needs to be done. This year the Index focuses on the regions, hearing from older people themselves and looking at the widely varying geographical trends.
