Greece calls on Russia to recognize genocide of Pontiacs

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Greek public and the Greeks living in Russia are calling on the country to recognize the genocide of Pontiacs perpetrated at the hands of the Ottoman Empire.

Addressed to the Russian President, State Duma and the Federal Council, the petition was published on Change.org.

The Turkish authorities have destroyed some 326.000 – 382.000 Greek civilians, living in Pontus, the document says.

“The souls of the victims have been yearning for justice for already 100 years. We call on Russia – a country that sheltered hundreds of thousands of Greeks who survived the Turks' atrocities – to honor the memory of the innocent victims,” the document reads, according to RIA Novosti.
