Rouhani sees opportunity to further develop Iran-Armenia economic ties

PanARMENIAN.Net - Following the historic deal on Tehran’s nuclear program and the removal of sanctions against the Islamic nation, there is a good opportunity for developing bilateral trade and economic ties with Armenia, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said Sunday, June 5.

“To this end, we should take practical steps,” Rouhani said as he met with Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian in Tehran.

As the Foreign Ministry press office reports, the President hailed the strong and stable relations between the two countries.

According to Rouhani, there is great potential for cooperation which requires joint implementation.

The parties agreed that abolishing visas between Armenia and Iran will further bolster activation of business relations and tourism development.

Nalbandian, in turn, briefed Rouhani on the clashes in early April, unleashed by Azerbaijan against Nagorno Karabakh, and steps to implement agreements reached at a Vienna-hosted meeting on May 16.

In this respect, Rouhani reiterated that Iran supports the exclusively peaceful settlement of the conflict on the basis of principles of international law.
