Bulgaria mulls importing Iranian gas via Armenia, Georgia

PanARMENIAN.Net - Bulgaria’s Prime Minister Boyko Borisov said in Iran on Wednesday, July 13 that Sofia and Tehran would explore a gas transport corridor project that would link the two countries through Armenia and Georgia, the Natural Gas Europe reports.

A new transport corridor between the Gulf and the Black Sea, linking Iran, Armenia, Georgia and Bulgaria will be discussed at an expert meeting to be held in Sofia, a statement from the Prime Minister’s office said.

On the sidelines of the Prime Minister’s visit to the Islamic Republic, Bulgaria’s energy minister Temenuzhka Petkova discussed opportunities for deepening bilateral cooperation in the energy sector, particularly in the field of natural gas, with her Iranian counterpart Bijan Namdar Zangeneh.

Iran is currently working on a list of priority projects for the next four years, including building export terminals to export liquefied natural gas from the Persian Gulf.

Turkey is also one of the options for delivering Iranian gas to Bulgaria, NGE says.
