Russia’s flagship carrier Aeroflot halted ticket sales to Turkey and revised its flight schedule to Istanbul after the Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsia) suspended flights to Turkey, the airline said Wednesday, July 20, according to Sputnik.

"In light of Rosaviatsia’s July 16 ban on Russian citizens’ travel to Turkey, Aeroflot suspends the sale and reticketing of flight tickets to Istanbul and Antalya (sales are open on flights from Turkey). Sales will open after the regulator lifts the ban," Aeroflot said in a statement.

Only nationals of foreign countries can be transported from Russia to Turkey.

The move comes amid a volatile security situation following late Friday’s attempt to overthrow the Turkish government, leading to numerous deaths and a mass-scale crackdown on suspected traitors.
