ARMENIAN CHURCH IN ROSTOV-ON-DON RUSSIAN CITY IS 220 YEARS OLD

PanARMENIAN.Net - The 220 anniversary of Surb-Khach Armenian Church, the monument of architecture of the federal importance, is to be celebrated in September in the Russian city of Rostov-on-Don. As "Yerkramas", the newspaper of the Armenians of the South of Russia reports, in this view a new exposition called "New-Nakhichevan-on-Don Armenian community in the channel of the Russian public life of late 18-th and early 20-th centuries" was opened in the museum of Russian-Armenian friendship. Collections devoted to the life and activities of the Armenians, who had made their contribution on the history and culture of the region, are presented at the exposition. For instance, one can see here the palette and the brushes of outstanding artist Martiros Sarian, who was native of Nakhichevan-on-Don town. Just his voice appeared to be the decisive one when in the middle sixties of the 20-th century the temple of Surb-Khach had to be pulled down and a new school built at its place.
