Armenia improves Global Hunger Index position by three points

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenia has improved its position in the Global Hunger Index, scoring 8.7 points against the 11.7 registered the previous year.

Since 2000, significant progress has been made in the fight against hunger. The 2000 Global Hunger Index (GHI) score was 30.0 for the developing world, while the 2016 GHI score stands at 21.3, representing a reduction of 29 percent.1 To put this in context, the higher the GHI score, the higher the level of hunger. Scores between 20.0 and 34.9 points are considered serious.

The proportion of undernourished population stands at 5.8% in Armenia, the prevalence of children under 5 amounts to 3.3%, while that of stunting in children under five years is 12.9%. In the country, the under five mortality rate is as low as 1.4%.
