Armenian Genocide film makes Oscar Documentary shortlist (video) October 27, 2016 - 15:19 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - “The Other Side of Home”, a short film about the Armenian Genocide of 1915 has been included in the shortlist of Oscar Documentary Short Subject category. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced on Wednesday, October 26 that the field of Documentary Short Subject contenders for the 89th Academy Awards has been narrowed to 10 films. Five will earn nominations to be unveiled on January 24. The Academy’s Documentary Branch culled the list from 61 eligible entries. The movie centers around Maya, a Turkish woman who finds out that her grandmother was one of the Armenians who survived the Genocide. The documentary shows Maya's visit to Armenia on the centennial of the mass killings.
