Armenia tourism has the capacity to grow fivefold, Minister says

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenia's tourism has the potential to grow by up to five times, Minister of Economic Development and Investments Suren Karayan said Thursday, December 29.

At a meeting with tourism industry representatives, Karayan said the sector, currently among the Ministry's top priorities, is capable of creating inclusive added value.

Citing research by the UN World Tourism Organization, Karayan said tourism along with infrastructures has the potential to grow by up to five times.

The Minister also discussed issues concerning the VAT, visa facilitation policies, communications, Armenia's recognizability and the overall development of the sector.

It was decided that the Union of Incoming Tour Operators, whose head Ara Petrosyan was participating in the meeting, will submit a package of proposals to the Ministry for further discussions with the state tourism committee.

He said that his government would also focus on fighting corruption and "eliminating all barriers that impede business from developing".
“We have a simple problem:we prepare 400-500 specialists each year, while there is demand for 2000 professionals," he said.
At Shirak airport in the northern Armenian town of Gyumri, traffic soared by 150% in the reporting period against 2016.
“The investments will be spent to build a canning factory and slaughterhouses, expand greenhouse farms,” Ignati Arakelyan said.
