Pashinyan: Azerbaijan won't achieve unilateral concessions from Armenia

Azerbaijan's aggressive policy will not force Armenia to make unjustified and unilateral concessions in the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said in his speech at a meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council in Minsk Friday, July 17.

"Azerbaijan, ignoring the numerous calls for an end to armed conflicts amid the pandemic, including those reflected in the Joint Statement of the members of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council on April 14, and the statement of the UN Secretary General on March 23, launched a military on the Armenian border," Pashinyan told colleagues in the Belarusian capital.

"The Armenian armed forces could not but react to Azerbaijan's provocations, which unfortunately continue to this day, contributing to the continued tension and unpredictability of the situation."

Pashinyan said Azerbaijan's aggressive policy aimed at escalating tension in the region is leading nowhere.

"There is no military solution to the conflict, and there is no alternative to peace negotiations, which meets the interests of all the peoples of our region," Pashinyan added.

The situation on the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan escalated on July 12, with Azerbaijan having launched three unsuccessful infiltration attempts since that day. The Azerbaijani military has also been firing on the Armenian positions, and using large caliber grenade launchers and combat drones to target civilian homes in several border settlements. Four servicemen of the Armenian army have been killed, while Azerbaijan has reported 12 deaths.
