Medvedev: Russia not going to make Iran article of commerce with U.S.
Russia is ready to discuss only actual constructive proposals in the field of anti-missile defense; proposals that will be mutually beneficial for both RF, Europe, and the United States, Dmitry Medvedev, the RF president said about it during his Madrid press-conference, after the negotiations held with the head of the Spanish Government, Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero.
"If the US new administration, as I hope, displays common sense and proposes, say, some new constructive approach, one that will be advantageous for all Europeans, and ,naturally, the United States of America and our country, we are ready to discuss it",said Medvedev. He emphasized that it must be а "good, full-fledged, global constructive approach only and not a fragment of it located near Russian borders."
The RF president also emphasized that no anti-missile defense exchanges with the US are possible. "Speaking about exchanges, I can say that it is not productive, we cannot treat the issue this way," and added his comments regarding the US president Barack Obama's address on the exchange issue.
"No one stipulates the anti-missile defense system by any exchanges, particularly on Iran Issue. We closely cooperate with our American partners on the issue of Iran's nuclear problems, as it is." Those contacts have never been loosened nor weakened even when we entered a phase of disagreement on certain issues," Medvedev emphasized. "Anyway, what we are having now proves that the new president Barack Obama and our American colleagues want to intensify the cooperation and come up with solutions important not only for Russia or America", "Interfax" reports.
