The parliament in Tbilisi confirmed the appointment and gave its backing to Garibashvili’s Cabinet. Last week, Giorgi Gakharia announced his resignation as PM — a post he had held since 2019 — because of a disagreement with his own team over the detention of Nika Melia, a prominent opposition politician.
