Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, has died at the age of 99, Buckingham Palace said Friday, April 9.
A statement from Buckingham Palace said: "It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
"His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle."
The Duke was married to Queen Elizabeth II for more than 70 years and became the longest-serving consort of a Monarch in British history. He supported the Queen throughout her record-breaking 69-year reign at the helm of Britain and retired only in 2017, at 96, after carrying out more than 20,000 solo public engagements.
