Armenians of Tbilisi demand Turkey's recognition of Armenian Genocide
On April 24, activists in Tbilisi are planning to hold a rally under the slogan "We remember and fight for Justice". The rally, dedicated to the 94 anniversary of the 1915-23 Armenian Genocide will be held near Turkish Embassy. Rally participants will deman Turkey's recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
The same day, the Tbilisi State Drama Theatre after P. Adamyan will hold a commemorative event dedicated to the tragic anniversary. Event program includes a photo exhibition, speeches and documentary film presentation.
The authors of such initiative are the Armenian Cooperation Centre in Georgia (ACCG) and the Armenian Student Association in Georgia.
On the occasion of the 94th anniversary Armenian Genocide, the Tbilisi State University after I. Djavakhishvali is organizing a film presentation and lecture entitled "1915-23 Armenian Genocide", a torchlight procession and a protest near the Turkish Embassy, well as signatures' collection, requesting Tbilisi universities to exempt Armenian from classes on Genocide commemoration day.
Perpetrated by the Turkish authorities in 1915-23, the massacres of Armenians constitute the first Genocide of the XX century. 1.5 million Armenians were killed, over 500 thousand were deported to the Der-es-Zor desert and Western Armenia was deprived of its native population.
The fact of the Armenian Genocide has been recognized, and Turkey, its perpetrator, was condemned by many countries such as Uruguay, Russia, France, Lithuania, as well as the lower house of the Italian Parliament, 42 American States, the parliaments of Greece, Cyprus, Argentina, Belgium, Wales, the National Council of Switzerland, the House of Commons of the Canadian Parliament and the Seim of Poland.
