Congress to host hearing on future of Karabakh

PanARMENIAN.Net - A hearing on "The Future of Nagorno-Karabakh" will be held at the Foreign Affairs Committee of the US Congress on Wednesday, November 15, according to the press service of the Committee.

James O’Brien, Assistant Secretary at the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs of the US Department of State, and Alexander Sokolowski, Deputy Assistant Administrator at the Bureau for Europe and Eurasia of the US Agency for International Development, will be witnesses at the hearing.

On September 19, Azerbaijan launched a military offensive against Nagorno-Karabakh, which left hundreds of Armenians killed and thousands of others displaced. On September 20, the authorities of Nagorno-Karabakh agreed to a ceasefire on Azerbaijan’s terms, including the dissolution of the Defense Army. On September 28, President of the Republic of Artsakh Samvel Shahramanyan signed a decree, according to which the Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) will cease to exist by January 1, 2024. Over 100,000 displaced residents have already fled Nagorno-Karabakh and reached Armenia.
