EU removes Armenia from Borrell’s Magnitsky Act statement

The European Union has revised a statement from foreign policy chief Josep Borrell, which said on Sunday, December 17 that Armenia had joined a European Council decision of December 4 on restrictive measures.

According to the initial version of the statement, 11 non-EU member states, including Armenia and Azerbaijan, had joined the European Council's decision on the European Magnitsky Act which enables the bloc to sanction officials, individuals and entities responsible for serious human rights violations or abuses.

In the revised version, however, Armenia has been removed from the list.

In a conversation with News.am, the Armenian Foreign Ministry has denied joining the measure.
