Azerbaijan “takes note” of Armenia’s decision to provide new minefield maps

Baku expects Armenia to provide accurate maps of all mined territories in Nagorno-Karabakh, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said Thursday, January 25.

The announcement came after Armenia’s National Security Service announced on Thursday that it will provide Azerbaijan what it called “new documents” containing information about a minefield in Karabakh.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan took note of the statement of the National Security Service of Armenia dated January 25, 2024 on its intention to provide mine maps to Azerbaijan,” the statement from Baku reads.

The Armenian NSS said the decision was based on humanitarian considerations but Azerbaijan maintained that it won’t be regarded as a confidence-building measure

The National Security Service added that eight new documents containing information on minefields in Karabakh will be provided to Azerbaijan through official channels.
