Baku reports “significant progress” in Armenia- Azerbaijan normalization

PanARMENIAN.Net - Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov has said Azerbaijan and Armenia have made “significant progress” in the normalization process.

Bayramov made the remarks in his speech before the 79th session of the UN General Assembly on September 28.

He added, however, that “partial peace” with Armenia is not an option, as the neighboring countries continue to hold peace talks to normalize relations, Anadolu Agency reports.

Bayramov said such a peace is not an option – two days after Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan continued to urge Azerbaijan to sign a partial peace agreement with Armenia despite Baku’s repeated rejections of the idea.

Bayramov said Azerbaijan and Armenia have made significant progress in the normalization process, and Baku will continue to act “with a strong sense of responsibility for not only its national security and well-being, but also for ensuring a better future for the entire region.”

For the finalization of the normalization process, he majntained, Armenia has to “legally abandon territorial claims against Azerbaijan once and for all through implementing constitutional amendments”.

Pashinyan insisted earlier in his speech that there is “nothing of this kind in our constitution” and that “it is the constitution of Azerbaijan that contains territorial claims on Armenia.”
