Baku seeks new “cases” against Armenia: MP

A Member of Parliament from the "I Have Honor" faction, Tigran Abrahamyan, commenting on the ongoing trials of former political and military leaders of Artsakh in Baku, stated that Azerbaijan aims to fabricate new cases for political and propaganda purposes, which will later be used against Armenia, Sputnik Armenia reports.

Abrahamyan emphasized that the publication of former Artsakh President Arayik Harutyunyan’s alleged testimony was no coincidence. According to Azerbaijani claims, Harutyunyan stated he did not order the 2020 missile strikes on Ganja.

He noted that the trials are devoid of justice, a fact Abrahamyan believes is corroborated by Ruben Vardanyan's recent statements.

"The issue is not the individuals detained in Azerbaijan, but that these trials are being used to justify further aggression against Armenia," he said.

On January 17, Azerbaijan began court hearings involving former political and military leaders of Artsakh. The accused include former Presidents of Nagorno-Karabakh Arkadi Ghukasyan, Bako Sahakyan, Arayik Harutyunyan; former Commander of the Defense Army Levon Mnatsakanyan; former Deputy Commander David Manukyan; former Foreign Minister David Babayan; and National Assembly President Davit Ishkhanyan.

Ruben Vardanyan's case has been separated into a distinct legal proceeding. On January 16, Vardanyan stated that since his arrest, he has provided no testimony other than his name and surname. He added that all records bearing his signature are falsified and confirmed that he, his lawyer, and his translator have been subjected to pressure.
