The Secretary of the I Have Honor faction in Armenia’s National Assembly, Tigran Abrahamyan, wrote on his Facebook page that by extracting testimonies from former Artsakh President Arayik Harutyunyan, Azerbaijan aims to identify the person responsible for ordering the missile strikes on Ganja, systematically implicating Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
“The core of the trial in Baku is Azerbaijan’s effort to label Armenia as an aggressor, occupier, and ethnic cleanser. With the Armenian government’s silence, Azerbaijan will exploit the situation to its advantage,” Abrahamyan wrote.
“Why is Azerbaijan focused on the missile strikes on Ganja and on extracting or fabricating testimony from Harutyunyan?
From Azerbaijani propaganda, it is clear that the goal is to “uncover” who ordered the Ganja missile strikes—a charge they persistently associate with Pashinyan.
Moreover, Azerbaijani hints suggest that if they “prove” this in their courts—where anything can be fabricated—it would give Azerbaijan a perceived legitimate right to initiate military actions against Armenia.”
“It is evident that they already have this ‘testimony.’ The question now is how they will use it against Armenia and what new nuances this will bring to their strategy of blackmail,” Abrahamyan added.
On January 21, a preparatory hearing for the fabricated trial of former Artsakh leaders will continue in Baku’s military court, presided over by Judge Zeynal Aghayev. A preliminary hearing in the case of former Artsakh State Minister Ruben Vardanyan is scheduled for January 27.
In a statement on January 16, Ruben Vardanyan noted that he has not provided any testimony since his arrest other than his name. He emphasized that all records allegedly signed by him are falsified and confirmed that he, his lawyer, and translator have been subjected to pressure.
