Taxpayers can claim healthcare or education expense refunds

PanARMENIAN.Net - Residents of Armenia who submit an annual income declaration may claim refunds for social expenses made on behalf of themselves and their family members (spouse, parents, and children), according to the State Revenue Committee (SRC).

"You may take advantage of the social expense refund if, during 2024, you purchased a health insurance package from any insurance company operating in Armenia or paid tuition fees at an educational institution in Armenia," the statement explains.

To use this refund opportunity, you must request an invoice or other official document from the service provider (insurance company or educational institution) by presenting your ID and social services number.

"If the expense was incurred for a family member but the declaration is filed by you, you must also submit the family member’s ID, social services number, and documents proving your familial relationship," the statement adds.

The maximum annual refund for healthcare expenses is set at 50,000 AMD, while the maximum for education expenses is 100,000 AMD.

If a taxpayer who files a declaration is a beneficiary of a social package, they cannot claim a refund for healthcare expenses for themselves but can claim it for expenses incurred to purchase insurance packages for family members.

If a taxpayer already benefits from income tax refunds for mortgage loans, tuition fees, or dividends, they may still apply for social expense refunds, provided there is a positive difference between the calculated and refunded income tax amounts for the reporting year.

You can apply for a social expense refund after submitting the annual income declaration via the Unified Electronic System for Individuals.

All working citizens in Armenia must declare their 2024 income by May 1.
