Deputy FM: every country must control its borders independently![]() January 24, 2025 - 16:27 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - The arrival of a U.S. team specializing in customs and border control in Armenia is aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of Armenia’s border management. Deputy Foreign Minister Paruyr Hovhannisyan announced this in a conversation with journalists, emphasizing that this is unrelated to sensitive issues with any specific country. The Deputy Minister noted that the Armenian side has held discussions on the matter with Iran, and no concerns were raised, according to Aysor.am . “I see no issue in reaching an agreement with the Iranian side; our relations are at an unprecedentedly high level,” Hovhannisyan stated. He also highlighted the importance of Armenia independently managing its borders. When asked whether Russian border guards might leave the Armenian-Turkish and Armenian-Iranian borders, he responded: “Of course, in an ideal world, every country should be able to control its borders.” Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan previously announced that starting December 30, 2024, border control at the Armenian-Iranian Agarak checkpoint will be conducted exclusively by Armenia’s Border Guard Troops. U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, during the signing of the U.S.-Armenia Strategic Partnership Charter, stated that U.S. experts in customs and border control would visit Armenia in the coming weeks to support the development of its border security capabilities. ![]() ![]() Grigoryan added that the situation around the world and particularly in the region is very difficult. The Armenian Defense Ministry has denied Azerbaijan's accusations of violating the ceasefire.
