Russian ambassador: Armenia expected to join Victory anniversary events![]() January 27, 2025 - 18:22 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Moscow expects Armenian leadership to participate in the 80th-anniversary celebrations of the Soviet victory in the Great Patriotic War, scheduled for May this year. Russian Ambassador to Armenia Sergey Kopirkin announced this during an event marking the 81st anniversary of the lifting of the Siege of Leningrad. “You know that the Russian president has invited his CIS counterparts to the jubilee events in Moscow in May 2025,” he said near the memorial to children of the siege in Yerevan, reports Sputnik Armenia. Kopirkin recalled that the monument was inaugurated 10 years ago through the joint initiative of Yerevan’s mayor and the governor of Saint Petersburg. He noted that each year, tribute is paid to the humanitarian efforts of the Armenian people in aiding children during the Leningrad siege. “I would like to once again thank the Armenian people on behalf of Russia and the Russian people for this great act of humanity. Rest assured, we will never forget it,” said Sergey Kopirkin. The ambassador also addressed the issue of preserving historical memory, warning against attempts not only to distort historical facts but also to rewrite history entirely. He stressed that the defense of historical truth remains a key moral responsibility today. ![]() ![]() Grigoryan added that the situation around the world and particularly in the region is very difficult. The Armenian Defense Ministry has denied Azerbaijan's accusations of violating the ceasefire. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan took to social media to thank his Lithuanian counterpart for the contribution.
