Marutyan: boycott continues, transport fare must be 100 drams

Former Yerevan mayor and leader of the New Force party, Hayk Marutyan, addressed Yerevan residents via a Facebook live stream, insisting that the fare for one ride should be 100 drams and calling for a boycott of the new fare from February 1.

Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan announced that the fare for one ride has been set at 150 drams, effective in 2025, with potential increases of up to 10 drams per year in the following years.

Marutyan argued that the decision to set the fare at 150 drams demonstrates that city authorities have bowed to public pressure and that no proper fare calculation was conducted.

"There is no data behind any of their decisions. The goal is simply to rob the people," said Marutyan.

He emphasized that citizens' demands remain unchanged—the fare must be 100 drams—so the boycott will continue.

Earlier, Avinyan asserted that maintaining a stable and high-quality transport system would be impossible without the new tariffs. He also stated that there would be no rollback and that the new fares would take effect on February 1.

The Mother Armenia faction and former mayor Hayk Marutyan’s team oppose the fare increase. They propose maintaining the new pricing model while also allowing passengers to pay 100 drams for a single trip. Marutyan has urged residents to boycott the fare hike by paying only 100 drams and getting off the bus.
