Lemkin Institute: Pashinyan's statements echo Turkish rhetoric

Lemkin Institute for Genocide Prevention criticizes Pashinyan's statements on the Armenian Genocide

The Lemkin Institute has expressed concern over Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s recent comments on the Armenian Genocide, calling them reminiscent of Turkish denialist rhetoric.

The Lemkin Institute for Genocide Prevention has responded to Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s recent remarks on the Armenian Genocide, stating that they echo Turkish denialist rhetoric.

According to the statement, “His remarks disregard decades of historical research by Turkish, German, British, American, and Armenian scholars on the Armenian Genocide. They also hinder the struggle for recognition and create a dangerous geopolitical dynamic, especially in the context of Azerbaijan’s ongoing genocidal actions against Artsakh Armenians and continued threats toward Armenia.”

The institute expressed hope that the Armenian Prime Minister would clarify his statements on the Genocide and “ensure that his future remarks do not resemble those of Armenian Genocide deniers.”

On January 24, during a meeting with the Armenian community in Zurich, Pashinyan stated that it was still necessary to understand what had happened and why regarding the Armenian Genocide. The Swiss Armenian and Armenian-friendly Associations Council (CAAS) has called on Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to clarify his statements made in Zurich on January 24.
