Yerevan residents protest transport fare increase

Yerevan residents are boycotting the increase in public transport fares. The Mother Armenia faction of the Yerevan City Council, former Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan, and Armenia parliamentary group MP Garnik Danielyan have joined the boycott, reports Aysor.am .

The Yerevan City Council approved a decision with 33 votes in favor, setting the fare for a single journey at 150 drams starting February 1. Additionally, packages for a unified ticket system will be introduced.

Samvel Hakobyan, a member of the "Mother Armenia" faction, has called on citizens to pay only 100 drams, emphasizing that it is their constitutional right.

"If you feel that the law is being violated, go live and inform," he said, while also urging not to engage in disputes with drivers.

Yerevan Deputy Mayor Suren Grigoryan announced that the additional 30-day usage period will be in effect until February 28, including packages that have been purchased but activated late. According to him, this decision is not based on financial reasons but aims to more smoothly integrate citizens into the unified ticketing system.
