Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan underlined the significance of earthquake preparedness for both Turkey and Greece after tremors were recorded near Santorini.
“The tremors on the Greek side serve as a reminder to both nations of the importance of preparedness. Earthquake readiness is a matter of survival for our country,” Erdogan stated after a cabinet meeting, according to ekathimerini.com
Recalling the destructive earthquakes that hit Turkey in February 2023, he warned, “We have no choice but to quickly make our cities, especially Istanbul, earthquake-resistant.”
He also emphasized the duty of local authorities, asserting, “I reiterate that local authorities must prepare their cities for earthquakes instead of seeking votes.”
