On February 11, the Armenian National Assembly convened a regular session, with eight items on the agenda, including a bill to launch Armenia’s accession process to the European Union.
The main rapporteur for the initiative is Artak Zeynalyan, the authorized representative of the civil initiative group. Deputy Foreign Minister Paruyr Hovhannisyan serves as the co-rapporteur.
The government had earlier approved the necessity of discussing the bill.
On January 9, the Armenian government endorsed a proposal submitted by the EuroVote civil initiative to initiate the EU accession process. The bill is set for discussion in the Armenian parliament.
The European Union will analyze the bill approved by the Armenian government and engage in discussions with Armenian authorities regarding the accession process, according to Anita Hipper, the EU’s chief spokesperson for foreign relations and security policy.
