The Yerevan Municipality has decided to extend public transport fare discounts to pensioners and social aid recipients living in the regions, Deputy Mayor Suren Grigoryan announced during a City Council meeting.

He also noted that changes will benefit large families, Pastinfo reports.

Specifically, families with four or more children will no longer need to prove that their children are minors. The discount will now apply to all family members, regardless of age.

Additionally, the validity periods for tickets have been revised.

"One-day and seven-day tickets will now allow unlimited rides, and the 90-minute transfer ticket will be extended to 180 minutes," Grigoryan stated.

According to the deputy mayor, the new system will take effect on March 1, allowing time to resolve technical issues.

Since February 1, former Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan, the Mother Armenia faction, and youth activists have been protesting fare hikes, urging passengers to pay only 100 drams.

On February 1, the Yerevan City Council approved a decision setting the fare at 150 drams per ride with 33 votes in favor. A unified ticketing system will also be introduced. Monthly, quarterly, and annual passes purchased between January 1 and February 28 will receive an additional 30 days of validity.
